ItsMonday

It’s Monday 12/5/2022

IT’S MONDAY! today and tomorrow is the runoff election in Georgia. Some people were jumping in and making phone calls to support Sen. Warnock, and that was about all we could do to influence this election. It is, however, still a very important race concerning control of the Senate. At 50-50, with VP Harris’s vote, we have a voting majority and with that, we accomplished quite a few things in the last Congress. A 51-seat majority will give us a real majority and the ability to accomplish even more. So, we wish Sen. Warnock well and pray that Mr. Walker gets what any incompetent fool candidate should get, soundly defeated!

Trump, once again, distinguished himself by cuddling up to white supremacist antisemite Nick Fuentes with a private dinner at Mar-a-Lago, and then when he got some pushback, pretended he did not know the man’s tendencies. I think his playbook is wearing thin, even with his supporters. If he actually does make another run for the Presidency, it will further fracture his divided party and make it easier for Democrats to win in 2024. It will also increase the possibility of violence around the election.

We must remain vigilant and stand up for the ideals of our democracy. We cannot afford to backslide here. Democrats must win the next two or three elections and do more in local races, not to eliminate conservatism, just maybe put it on a more rational path. The goal must be to purge the Republican Party of its undemocratic tendencies and to learn to govern more for the people and less for the corporate dollar.

Everything starts at the grassroots, and that means putting Democratic Candidates on the ballot for every local and county race on the ballot. Too many times, people win seats unopposed, or no one runs at all, so appointments are made. If Democrats run, some of them will get elected, and then we will have influence in governance. It also trains candidates to move up to more important positions. Plus, of course, a couple of Democrats on school boards will have a positive influence on our children’s education.

PARTICIPATE! DONATE! VOTE! These are the pillars of democratic success. I keep promoting them and we should keep practicing them.
