ItsMonday

It’s Monday! 2/20/2023

Yes, IT’S MONDAY! again. This has been such a consequential week I don’t know where to begin. We have bad news, news, and good news. I think we’ll start on the negative side and work to a positive conclusion. That, I think, will promote better mental health for all.

We had another mass shooting last week, this time on the campus of Michigan State University. Three individuals were killed who, by any standard that was reported, were respected in their respective communities and had the outstanding potential for successful lives. Were they killed for any wrongdoing, political, or religious affiliation? No, they were killed for absolutely no reason at all, for just existing as human beings in the wrong physical space at the wrong time. When will the nation wake up to the absurdity of this and demand change?

The second item would be that Senator Fetterman has been hospitalized and is being treated for depression. I understand this is a serious development, and the talking heads may demand he step aside. I don’t believe this should be the case. Depression is a treatable condition, especially when recognized and accepted by the individual. I believe this has been caused by problems associated with recovery after his stroke. None of this is insurmountable. We worked hard to elect John Fetterman as Senator from Pennsylvania. Now let us support him through this.

Moving up the scale, we have petitioning events scheduled in Punxsutawney and Brookville for this week. Places and times are detailed in the calendar below. There will also be several individuals circulating petitions door-to door in the Punxsutawney and Brockway areas. This is an important aspect of your existence as a Democrat. We should support candidates whom we desire to be in office by supporting them to be on the ballot. It also allows you an opportunity to learn about these people and then inform others in your circle! Yes, that is exactly what we are here to do.

On the top of my list: the Jefferson County Democratic Committee will host Demstock 23 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Brookville, Aug. 11-13. This event will have exclusive use of the grounds. This is the premier Democratic gathering of Pennsylvania and maybe of the country. Candidates and leaders of our state will show up. There will be food and advocacy groups there. This is your chance to meet and greet and get your two cents in. There will be a lot more information on this; planning is just starting. Camping with water and electricity will be available. It is, I believe, an honor for this event to land here in Jefferson. There will be plenty of opportunities for volunteer time and I want to see as many of us attend as possible. This is great!
