It’s Monday again! I’m excited to talk about our Petition Signing Events coming up soon. First, we are in Punxsutawney on Sunday February 4th from 4-6 PM at The Eagles. This event will have some Candidates present, and is a unique opportunity to converse with them, discuss their agenda if elected, and ask questions about their positions and duties. The second event will be in Brookville on Wednesday February 7th from 6-8 PM at the Fusion Café. For those of you who may not know where this is, it is almost directly across the street from the County Extension/Domestic Relations Office. This event may not have Candidates present. Of course, everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend the Punxsutawney event. The Brookville event has been scheduled to accommodate those voters who may not be able to travel the distance due to time constraints or possible bad weather. Of course, we want as many registered Jefferson County Democratic voters to attend as possible.
There are quite a few people to support in this 2024 Primary Election. At the top of the list are our three Federal Candidates. Headlining that list is President Joe Biden, running for a second term. Second is Robert P. Casey, running for re-election as Senator. His likely opponent is another carpetbagger who has a reputation for taking jobs out of the country. Third on this list is Zach Womer, a resident of Philipsburg and a student at Penn State Law. Zach has expressed a desire to run for the PA District 15 House seat currently held by Glenn Thompson.
The second group is our Candidates running for State-wide Office. These are the Candidates most likely to appear in person at the Punxsutawney event. The first candidate is Eugene DePasquale, running for Attorney General. Gene was not endorsed, but he had over 60% support and needed 67% to gain the official endorsement. He is the JeffDems preferred candidate and thus has county endorsement. Second is Ryan Bizzarro, a State Representative from the Erie area. He is running for State Treasurer. Last, but not least, in this group is State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta, who is running for Auditor General. He is immensely popular with voters and has experience on financial committees in the House. Ask him what he intends to do if elected. I think you will be pleased.
The third and last group of Candidates we are supporting are unique because I personally do not recall ever voting for or doing petitions for. They are Democrats who are involved with County Committees in the 15th Congressional District who are excited to become delegates to the Democratic National Convention and nominate President Joe Biden to run for re-election. This is a Primary process only. These candidates deserve our support because they travel and perform their duties at their own expense. What better proof of dedication to Democratic Ideals can there be. The four people running to do this are; Margaret Swoboda, Ezra Nanes, Laura Shadle, and Braxton White.
