ItsMonday

It’s Monday! 1/2/2023

Happy First IT’S MONDAY! of the New Year! As we embark on the journey of 2023, I think we will find that our battles have not been won and there is much yet to fight for. The Republicans are fighting to delay relinquishing control of the State House to Democrats by trying to delay special elections necessary to fill vacant seats. This will eventually happen but what is at stake here is what, if any, constitutional amendments and the wording of such, will appear on the spring ballot. Clauses restricting or eliminating protections for voting rights and abortion are among them. Because they cannot legislate, Republicans seek to circumvent the will of the people by altering our founding document, The Constitution of The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The process to amend the Constitution is ridiculously easy and should be stiffened. One change should be to require such amendment questions to only appear on the fall ballot in even years. At least that would ensure a more representative polling of the citizenry. This is just one more reason to work to maintain a Democratic Majority.

The year will start with candidates wanting to fill seats on the statewide courts. Petition-signing will be in February, and we will choose our candidates in May. The same will also be true for local and county positions as well. We need candidates to step up and vie for those positions. There is a saying that all politics is local and our Democratic majority is built from the ground up. This is part of the participationI keep talking about. School boards, borough councils, and township supervisors are essential in local governance and are also steppingstones on the political ladder. We need to pay attention. We are making inroads locally, statewide, and nationally but we cannot let up! The truth is that voters die every day and new potential voters come of age every day. Our voting block is a living breathing organism that needs nurturing and encouragement on a daily basis with membership in constant flux. Yes, it’s an ideological family that needs engagement.

PARTICIPATE! DONATE! VOTE!
