ItsMonday

It’s Monday! 1/9/2023

IT’S MONDAY! the second Monday of the New Year. It did not take very long for the Republican Majority in the House of Representatives to make a mockery of the institution and prove they are unable to lead their own caucus in the simple task of selecting a leader. I’m not sure what that says about their leadership ability for the nation at large as there are several important and recurring things facing Congress over the next two years. There will be things like The Budget, The Debt Ceiling, Immigration Policy, and The Ukraine-Russian War, just to name a few. I want to remind you all that you cannot exacerbate or create a problem, refuse to do anything to mitigate or solve said problem, and then complain and attempt to place blame on someone else for that problem. I’m sure we will have plenty to discuss in the coming months.

The following is taken from the writings of Bloomsburg Columnist Noah Feldman. “The MAGA ideology, at its core, is very obviously its nostalgic appeal for an English-speaking, Christian America full of manufacturing jobs for White men, homemaker status for White women, and subordinate or invisible status for people of color. (I would add here that homemaker is also code for subordinate.) The current (Supreme Court) conservative majority’s constitutional philosophy, like MAGA, invents an idealized past and strives to bring it back. It talks the talk of history without being responsible to reality, and without considering seriously the ways our country and our Constitution are in fact much greater now than when they were in the old days. They often use the term ‘historical test,’ but it would be more accurate to call it a doctrine of nostalgia.” Not my words, but I thought them appropriate. Do you want to live in a Republican fantasy world? I’m sure I don’t.

On to fun things. Jill Beck, Democratic candidate for Superior Court, will be doing a Meet & Greet with us at The Burrow on Findley Street. The event will be from 4:15-5:15pm on Monday, January 16th. The time is tight as Ms. Beck is traveling between multiple events. Please come by and meet Candidate Beck, you will be glad you did.
