ItsMonday

It’s Monday! 4/1/2024

It’s Monday. I hope everyone had a Happy Easter. It’s three weeks until Primary Election Day and, wonder of wonders, as you can see from the graphic at the top of this article, there is a Democratic candidate to challenge Chris Dush for the PA 25th Senatorial District. Let me introduce you to William McGill. Bill is an individual who served in the U.S. Army and has spent time in the auto industry. He has also spent time with youth baseball, the Boy Scouts, and other community-oriented organizations. He has also previously run for office and understands what it takes. It would be wonderful to have a Democrat represent us in the 25th, someone who, as the graphic depicts, would work to protect Choice and Reproductive Rights. He is one who would defend our ability to vote in the manner we choose. He would protect school funding, and he would work to raise the state minimum wage.

What is important here is that Mr. McGill is a Write-in Candidate. He will need 500 votes from the district to be on the ballot for the November election. It is extremely important that you tell other Democrats to write him in because his name will not be on the ballot. It is important to note that not all precincts in Jefferson County are in the 25th Senatorial District. As you can see from the map, precincts North of, or above the line, vote in the 25th Senatorial District. You will find a box on your ballot like the one depicted at the top of the article. Please write in William McGill. Let’s get Bill on the Ballot so we have a chance in November to finally rid ourselves of the election denier from our district.

Speaking of ballots, if you have not already received your mail ballot, it should be arriving early this week. If you have not requested a mail ballot, you can still do so this week. The last day to apply is April 16th. Go to vote.pa.gov to fill out the application. Proper return of the ballots is even more important than ever now. Recent Court decisions have stated that mail ballots returned either unsigned, or with missing or improper dates, will not be counted. Signatures are important because that is the information used to verify that you are you. It is compared to the one on file with the election board. The date is only important because the court says it is. It is not your birthday, but it must be a date between the day you received your ballot and the day you returned it. These are simple but important requirements. Follow them if you want your vote to count.

Recent events have shown a slow but steady swing in the polls in favor of President Biden and the Democrats. For those of you who thought Joe should get out there and fight, I think he has proven he can and will continue to do that. For those minorities who say they won’t vote for Joe Biden because he isn’t strong enough in support of their cause, they should remember that when Trump was President, he instituted racist policies like Islamic travel bans, separating Hispanic children from their parents at the border, and sending them to places unknown, where some of them have never been recovered! He also bashed people of Asian descent and stood by while Black citizens were pulled from their cars and murdered for no apparent reason.

Finally, we should remember all our preferred Democratic Candidates on Election Day. High voter turnout in Primary Elections sends a message.

  1. Joseph R. Biden – President of the United States.
  2. Robert P. Casey – Senator for the State of Pennsylvania.
  3. Zach Womer – Representative from the 15th Legislative District
  4. Eugene DePasquale – Attorney General of Pennsylvania.
  5. Ryan Bizzarro – Treasurer of Pennsylvania
  6. Malcolm Kenyatta – Auditor General of Pennsylvania
  7. William McGill – (Write-in) Senator for the 25th Senatorial District of Pa.
  8. Ezra Nanes, Braxton White, Margie Swoboda, Laura Shadle – Delegate to the Democratic National Convention. (Vote for four)

Donations Needed and Accepted

The Jefferson County Democratic Committee (JeffDems) is funded through donations (we do not get funding from the state). We rely on the generosity of local Democrats to enable all of our initiatives and hopefully, in August – November, an Office/HQ to function as “JeffDems Central” before the critical Fall Election. Please make it one of your New Year’s resolutions, to start a monthly recurring donation to JeffDems, large or small, using the ActBlue link below, or of course, one-time donation checks are welcome! Contribute so that your county committee can do more on your behalf. Thank you!
