Good morning, Democrats! It’s Monday and perhaps a day of reflection for all of us. We can recap the election. As expected, President Biden and Senator Casey will represent us in the fall. For the state-wide positions our preferred Candidate Eugene DePasquale will represent us for Attorney General, and Endorsed Candidate Malcolm Kenyatta will represent us for Auditor General. Erin McClelland will represent us for Treasurer. She won her race even though she was not the Endorsed Candidate. This represents the voter’s power to pick who they want. Zach Womer advanced in the 15th Congressional District and is starting to get around, attending events. The 15th is huge, and he has a big job ahead. Although it is not official, Bill McGill appears to have collected enough write-in votes to appear on the fall ballot and challenge Mr. Dush in the 25th PA Senate District. Dush tried a sneaky back door write-in campaign to spoil our Candidate’s chances. I don’t believe there are 500 Democrats in the district who would write him in.
Recently the Punxsutawney Area Hospital announced an expansion and building project where they are modernizing the emergency room and getting a new MRI machine. This will improve Health care services for the community and is great. Funding came through the Dept of Agriculture and some rural initiative. We should all note that the primary source would be the Biden Administration’s Build Back Better Bill where GT Thompson voted no. Don’t allow him to take credit.
I was very disappointed in the turnout for the Primary Election. Overall turnout was about 30% and was approximately the same for both parties. We all know and understand how outnumbered we are in Jefferson County. As I have said before, voter turnout is our primary and best tool to counteract that numerical disadvantage, and it has a large impact in our statewide races. We, of course, must do a better job with this for the November Election.
We are having a general JeffDems meeting this coming Thursday, May 2nd at 6:30 PM. We will be meeting at the Punxsy Eagles. There are some important issues and happenings coming up in this important presidential election year that need to be discussed. Things like our presence at, Festival in the Park, County Fair, Demstock, Laurel Festival, annual picnic, the fall dinner, and the question of an office space.
When discussing an office, there will be questions about length of lease, location, staffing, and most importantly, financing the project. These things must be voted on by The Committee with Committee input. Important to attend! I hope to see a large crowd there.

Donations Needed and Accepted
The Jefferson County Democratic Committee (JeffDems) is funded through donations (we do not get funding from the state). We rely on the generosity of local Democrats to enable all of our initiatives and hopefully, in August – November, an Office/HQ to function as “JeffDems Central” before the critical Fall Election. Please make it one of your New Year’s resolutions, to start a monthly recurring donation to JeffDems, large or small, using the ActBlue link below, or of course, one-time donation checks are welcome! Contribute so that your county committee can do more on your behalf. Thank you!
