IT’S MONDAY! and Donald Trump has been indicted! Just in case you were visiting Mars or were hiking the Appalachian Trail last week, let me repeat that. DONALD TRUMP HAS BEEN INDICTED! Yes, it’s Monday and that was the most satisfying news I have heard in quite a while. No one knows the details of the charges yet, but rumor has it that there are at least 30 counts of financial crimes. Maybe the most interesting event surrounding this was that Alan Weiselberg fired his Trump-based attorneys and installed a new team. That could mean nothing, but it could also be the game changer that guarantees a conviction.
I am relieved that someone has taken the first step in holding him accountable for his actions, but I hold no expectation this will come to a quick conclusion. We are in for maybe years of legal maneuvering before this is finished. Patience is still the virtue in play. As for the idea that we cannot charge a sitting president or maybe even a former president, remember that was a Bill Barr memo written to protect none other than Richard Nixon. It doesn’t have a basis in law or the Constitution. However, the dam has been broken. Let us see what else washes downstream.
The May Primary is only about 6 weeks away. If anyone would like to knock on some doors or make calls or texts to remind people to vote, let us know and we’ll get a list to you. Other events coming up before Demstock are the Laurel Festival, Groundhog Festival, Brockway 4th, and the Jefferson County Fair.
