It’s Monday. I enjoy reading and viewing historical material about the WWII era. I read about the nuts and bolts issues, how the cause and effect of decision making by involved parties affected outcomes. I particularly enjoy stories about individuals, their actions, what they endured, their sacrifices, failures and successes. I recently rewatched the HBO series “Band of Brothers.” For those who may be unfamiliar, this is a ten-part series that follows an airborne infantry company from D-Day to the end of the war. It chronicles their patriotism and dedication to duty amid the horrors of war. The death, physical damage and mental anguish are depicted with a realism that approaches actual experience.
I mention this for a reason. I was a young boy growing up in the 1950’s when my sense of self and country was developing. It was a time when virtually every adult male in my family and my neighborhood had served during that conflict. That grounded me in my sense of patriotism, knowing that we were morally right to counter Nazi and Fascist ideas and all the bigotry and racism associated with that. I am saddened and disappointed by the Republican stance here. Led by Trump, they seem to be pro-fascist and dictatorship rather than pro-democracy. Trump’s view of the Military as suckers and his disrespect of disabled veterans literally sickens me.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion to liberate Europe. Is it possible that we are at the end of an 80-year cycle that history is destined to repeat itself? Is the societal memory of the event gone because there is no one left alive to support it? I hope not! Voters like you and me must rise up and vote to support the fundamental basis of our Founding Documents. Leaders are not perfect, and that certainly includes Joe Biden. However, Joe Biden existentially supports the idea of America and works for us all. He does not demand fealty and loyalty to himself rather than the country. It does not matter what your policy choices may be, no consensus will be achieved if party and individual power are placed above country.
We have good Candidates. Vote by mail, or in person on Election Day, for democratic governance, and not for subservience to an individual.
Here are our preferred Candidates:

Donations Needed and Accepted
The Jefferson County Democratic Committee (JeffDems) is funded through donations (we do not get funding from the state). We rely on the generosity of local Democrats to enable all of our initiatives and hopefully, in August – November, an Office/HQ to function as “JeffDems Central” before the critical Fall Election. Please make it one of your New Year’s resolutions, to start a monthly recurring donation to JeffDems, large or small, using the ActBlue link below, or of course, one-time donation checks are welcome! Contribute so that your county committee can do more on your behalf. Thank you!
