ItsMonday

It’s Monday 8/11/2025

It is Monday morning again.  Last Wednesday we had Election Board Supervisor, Karen Lupone, and Jefferson County Commissioner, Scott North, as guest presenters in our latest edition of The Discussion Group series.  The topic was, “Election Administration, Why it is Safe, Reliable, and Accurate.”  Mail ballots were discussed, how the bar-coding of ballots out, and then in, ensures that the ballot comes back from where it was sent.  Why is the security envelope important?  Because it ensures the anonymity of your ballot.  Why is the signature on the outer envelope necessary and important?  This is the same as signing the book when you vote in person.  It is you identifying yourself as the voter.  The event was mainly an extended Q&A session, and many individual problems were put to rest.  I want to thank these public officials for agreeing to and addressing our group.

Trump is attempting to steal the Mid-Term Elections, and beyond.  The State of Texas is doing nothing more than what Trump is instructing them to do, rig the election to create a permanent MAGA majority.  They absolutely have no desire to govern for the benefit of working class America or for equitable governance for women or any minority.  They are attempting to justify their actions by claiming that the attempted gerrymander is political and not racial.  Well, what a load of Texas longhorn crap that is!  It will largely eliminate majority Hispanic and Black districts.  We should do all we can to support the Texas Democrats who are breaking quorum to deny a vote on the gerrymandering.  They are not breaking any law by doing that.  They are using a legitimate political tool built into their system.  The Texas Republicans may eventually get their way, but that only happens if the voters go along.  The voters do not have to elect those Republicans.  Democrats in blue states must answer with the same kind of redistricting.  If they steal five seats, then we must steal back ten seats elsewhere.

Adolf Hitler had his personal police force to go out and wreak havoc on the population without any checks or accountability.  It was called the Gestapo!  Now Trump has his own personal police to go out and wreak havoc on the population without any checks or accountability.  It is now called ICE!  Do you really think ICE will only go after undocumented people?  They have already stretched that envelope.  Soon it will be any of Trump’s perceived enemies, people he dislikes, and his political rivals.  As a nation we are being intimidated, and groomed, just like an Epstein child victim, to accept these illegal acts as normal.  There are now no age requirements, educational standards, or experience requirements to become a member of ICE.  You only need to express a loyalty to Donald Trump. Not The Constitution, not the Nation, and not the law, just to Trump.  Let us not fall prey to that normalization!

Demstock!  The event is this Friday and Saturday.  The main event Friday evening is the Cash for Candidates Drag Queen Bingo.  I don’t exactly know what that is, but attendees at past events said it was a fun time.  The purpose there is to raise cash for local candidates.  Our own Lisa Gourley, candidate for Punxsutawney School Board, is a contestant in that event.  Saturday is the standard tabling hall, vendors and open mike time, followed by the dinner and speakers.  There is everything from ice cream to wine, to craft beer.  Let me know ASAP if you want to go.

One of our Members is organizing a Dems social dinner.  It is just a chance to eat and drink with your Democratic friends.  We were doing this on a more regular basis, but the summer season had everyone’s calendar full. Let’s take this opportunity to gather at The Crazy Horse Saloon, in Stump Creek.  The date is Friday August 22, and the time is 4PM.  Contact Susan at 814-590-6605 to join the party.  Good food, good conservation, and friendly people, what’s not to like.

Participate, Donate, Vote.
