Well, it’s Monday again and I have realized that it is only 8 weeks to election day. We have been so busy with events this summer that dates are starting to creep up unnoticed. Two dates that are very important for the upcoming election are coming up. The first is October 23rd, which is the last day to register to vote. If you, or anyone you know has been procrastinating about this, encourage them to get it done. It doesn’t matter how committed or passionate you are about policy, party, or candidate, if you are ineligible to vote. The second important date is October 31st, which is the last day to request a mail ballot. It only takes a few minutes to do either of these two things. Go to vote.pa.gov to register, apply for mail ballot, change your address, and check your registration status. It is easy to do.
The only more counterproductive to continuing our great democratic system of government than not registering to vote, is to not exercise that privilege if you have it. I am sure very committed voters are hearing this message and will vote. What I am not so sure of is, are each of us doing enough to expand that base of committed voters? Yes, we need to find new democrats wherever we can, but I believe our groundswell of support will come from already registered voters who do not vote consistently. Making sure our family, friends and neighbors actually vote is a job done under the radar but is as important as any organized GOTV campaign!
We will be talking about Candidates in upcoming issues. We will have some unique opportunities to profile and help local Candidates, but more on that later. For now, just think about what you can do as an individual, to energize voters you think may not vote.
Participate, Donate, Vote.

Donations Accepted The Jefferson County Democratic Committee (JeffDems) is funded through donations (we do not get funding from the state), thus we rely on the generosity of local Democrats to enable such initiatives as registering new voters and promoting candidates, especially for the upcoming State, County, & Local Elections.
One-time checks are wonderful, or better still, please consider making a recurring monthly donation, large or small: Go to ActBlue and contribute so that your county committee can do more on your behalf. Thank you!
