Dear (Fetterman, McCormick, Thompson),
I am writing as a constituent deeply alarmed by the recent U.S. military strikes in Venezuela, which President Trump publicly announced in the early hours of January 3, 2026. According to multiple news outlets, the administration carried out “large‑scale strikes” across Caracas and other regions, and President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were reportedly “captured and flown out of the country” by U.S. forces. Venezuelan officials have stated that both civilian and military sites were hit during these attacks.
These actions raise profound legal, constitutional, and moral concerns. Congress has not authorized the use of military force against Venezuela, and there has been no public evidence of an imminent threat that would justify unilateral executive action. As my senator (representative), I am asking you to urgently investigate:
· Whether the administration violated the War Powers Resolution by initiating hostilities without congressional authorization.
· Whether the strikes complied with U.S. and international law, including prohibitions on aggressive war and requirements to protect civilians.
· What legal justification, if any, the administration is claiming for capturing and removing a foreign head of state.
· What steps Congress will take to reassert its constitutional authority over war powers and prevent further unauthorized military escalation.
I urge you to speak out publicly, demand full transparency from the administration, and support any legislative action necessary to ensure that no further military operations occur without explicit congressional approval.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Hello - This is _________ and I live at ______________.
I’m calling because I’m deeply alarmed by President Trump’s unauthorized military strikes in Venezuela. Congress did not authorize this action, and there’s been no public evidence of an imminent threat that would justify it.
I’m asking the Senator (Representative) to:
· publicly oppose these unauthorized strikes,
· demand the legal justification for the operation, and
· take action to reassert Congress’s constitutional authority over war powers.
We cannot allow any president to launch attacks or detain foreign leaders without congressional approval.
Thank you for passing along my concerns.
