Hey, it’s Monday, again. Before I get into this week’s events, I think I need to clarify some of my comments from last week. The Israeli conflict is likely to become a massive humanitarian disaster. Terrorism is always wrong and should not be tolerated. I would say that 95%+ of the people living in Gaza are not terrorists and more than half of the citizens there are under the age of 20. It does not matter how much the Israeli Government claims they are just going to “take out” Hamas and search for hostages, the collateral damage done to civilians and their homes will be horrendous. That will help create the next generation of terrorists and will cause this wound to fester for the next 50 years. The reality and the tragedy is that no one has a solution to this, and that was my point.

The above link is my lead into this week’s topic, School Board elections. The article is long and you can get lost in it, but the topic deserves the attention and it is a cautionary tale for the rest of us. The story is about a School District in southeast Pennsylvania that is in a life or death struggle with Moms for Liberty. That is a group who promotes fundamentalist religious values, is anti-gay, anti-trans, pro book banning, and supports a far right wing agenda.
They are not on our school boards currently, but a lot of that agenda is being promoted and the group is in the wings waiting to be invited in. The makeup of our School Boards is important if we want to counter this and keep our system of free public education both free and public. We have an incredible opportunity to ensure a proper agenda on our School Boards by electing seven Democratic School Board Members who are on the November ballot. To promote these candidates, we have scheduled two meet and greet sessions. Details are as follows.
Your Jefferson County Democratic Committee (JeffDems) has scheduled two “Meet & Greet” events, for our School Board candidates, as follows:
Tuesday, October 17, at 7pm – 9pm, at The Fusion Cafe, 185 Main St., Brookville Brookville School Board Candidates – Benjamin Reynolds, Justin Parson, Matt Smith
Thursday, October 19, at 6pm – 8pm, at The Burrow (back room), 108 N. Findley St., Punxsutawney
Punxsutawney School Board Candidates – Cindy Taylor, Sally Villella, Lisa Gourley, Madge Davis-Persing
I hope to see a lot of Democrats attend the events and/or anyone who would support these candidates. Feel free to pass this on. We will have snacks available and signs to take and plant. Mail ballots have gone out, remember to fill and return. Note, Cindy Taylor appears twice. for both the two year and the four year seats. Please check her box for BOTH positions. For those of you not in either the Punxsy School District or the Brookville School District, there are still very important County and State races. Jeff Pisarcik is involved in what may become a complicated and confusing Commissioner race. He deserves our vote and our support. Spread the word! Participate, Donate, Vote. John Huot, JeffDems Chair.
Donations Accepted
The Jefferson County Democratic Committee (JeffDems) is funded through donations (we do not get funding from the state), thus we rely on the generosity of local Democrats to enable such initiatives as registering new voters and promoting candidates, especially for the upcoming State, County, & Local Elections.
One-time checks are wonderful, or better still, please consider making a recurring monthly donation, large or small: Go to ActBlue and contribute so that your county committee can do more on your behalf. Thank you!
